On Tuesday, September 7, The Caribbean island of Grenada
was devastated by a Category 4 Hurricane, Ivan the Terrible.
Reports
have indicated that 90 per cent of the housing has been
damaged or destroyed, leaving most residents with nothing.
The
Grenada Nationals Association of Montreal, Caring and
Helping Hands, a Federally chartered international organization
run by Rev. Everton M. Bagot of Montreal, in conjunction
with other Caribbean Organizations, the Cote Des Neiges
Black Community Association, Access Caribbean and many
Grenadians living in Montreal, have launched THE GRENADA
HURRICAN RELIEF FUND to send money, food and clothing
to the devasted isle of spice immediately.

On
Sunday, November 21, 2004, Grenada’s
Prime Minister, Dr. the Rt. Hon. Keith
Mitchell is expected to be in Montreal
to attend a major fundraiser sponsored
by the Grenada Hurricane Relief Committee.
|
The
classical and gospel concert entitled
“Raise The Roof - A Musical Evening
to Remember” will be held at Trinity
Memorial Church, 5220 Sherbrooke Street
West, Montreal, commencing at
6:00 p.m., on Sunday, November
21.

The concert will feature the gospel
creations of The Calypso King
of the World – “The
Mighty Sparrow”,
along with some of Montreal’s
best choirs and soloists.

THIRD CONTAINER
OFF TO GRENADA
In keeping with its commitment to assist
hurricane-ravaged Grenada’s rehabilitation,
the Grenada Hurricane Relief Committee
has for the third time, on Monday, November
1, 2004, shipped off another
40ft container filled with food, clothing,
toys, medical equipment, tarpaulins and
building material to meet the needs of
the people of Grenada. “This totals
over 90,000 pounds of non-perishable food
and over 1000 boxes of clothing sent to
Grenada since our campaign began less
than two months ago”, says Leonard
Wharwood, Chairman of the Grenada Hurricane
Relief Committee. |

| SECOND CONTAINER OFF TO GRENADA
– TWO WEEKS EARLY
Due to the overwhelming response from
the community at large, the second container
from the Grenada Hurricane Relief Committee
left the Bill Durnan Arena on Tuesday,
October 12, 2004, headed for Grenada,
two weeks ahead of schedule. “This
shipment was much earlier than we expected”,
says Chairman Leonard Wharwood, “but
with the great response from the general
public, community groups and churches,
we were able to fill another container.”
This container will largely
assist the hospitals in Grenada as it
contained 45 boxes of medical and first
aid equipment, 7 hospital beds and 9 geriatric
chairs donated by The Bayview Hospital
in the West Island, 8 wheelchairs and
17 cots from the St Kitts-Nevis Association
of Montreal, also included is a donation
of 15 brand new cribs and 12 strollers,
19 boxes of nails and building material
from various organizations.
The container also held
289 family pack boxes of food, each to
feed a family of four, 4 barrels of non-perishable
food and 180 boxes of clothing, which
included new men’s suits from Peerless
Clothes and used clothing from the community
at large.
The Grenada Hurricane
Relief Committee wishes to say a big “Thanks”
to everyone for their kind support. Proceeds
from the fundraising Fashion Show and
concert with Super P and Randy Isaac,
will be put towards paying to ship the
container to Grenada at a cost of $5,000US.

The Grenada Hurricane
Relief Committee of Montreal needs your help...is
in order for this "REBUILD GRENADA BRICK
BY BRICK" campaign to be a success. This
campaign is for the reconstruction of the
primary and secondary schools in Grenada.
25 bricks already have been sold this week.
Our goal is to sell 500 bricks by the end
of December. Please help. The children of
Grenada need your help. Please pass this on
to your email friends, contacts, etc. and
please send in your cheque to support this
campaign. Tax receipt will be issued. Remember,
if you cannot afford to buy a brick, any amount
would be appreciated. This can certainly buy
some nails, etc. No donation is too small!
We need everyone's support and financial help.

form five students and others preparing for
A level examinations have traveled to neighboring
countries to continue their studies. None
of the twenty-one secondary schools in the
country is operating. A number of them have
been severely damaged by Hurricane Ivan.
The Grenada Hurricane Relief Committee of
Montreal has just sent off a 40ft container
to Grenada, loaded with 30,000 pounds of non-perishable
food, 400 boxes of clothing, 24 mattresses
and 400 boxes of medical supplies for the
hospital, among other supplies. We thank the
community for their continued support.
Our
next fundraiser will be in the form
of a Fashion Show, Concert with 2 Grenadian
Calypsonians: Super P and Randy Isaac, followed
by dancing to the sounds of 4 local D.J.'s.
This event will be held on Saturday,
October 23, 2004 at Le Manoir, 5319 Notre
Dame De Grace, Montreal. Tickets $15.00. Time:
7:30 p.m.
12 Top Montreal Black
and Caribbean designers, which include,
Affimi, Angela Alexis and Agatha Alexander,
will partake in the fashion production with
25 models, including the Montreal Ebony Models,
doing what they do best, raising funds for
charity.
The fashions of these young
designers are down right fabulous. Soft and
sheer, silky, subtle and serene. We are proud
to have them participate in this wonderful
fundraising project says show producer Gemma

Coming to woo the crowd will
be two top Grenadian
Calypsonians, Randy Isaac and Super P,
who are volunteering their time for this worthwhile
cause. They will perform in Concert, along
with Montreal
entertainers, Bernadette Charles, Sugarman,
Fire and Doggies.

CONTAINER OFF TO GRENADA
The Grenada Hurricane Relief Committee, with the
help and generosity of the Montreal community
and numerous volunteers have shipped off their
first container to the island of Grenada to aid
with the Hurricane Ivan Relief. Leaving the Bill
Durnan Arena on Wednesday, September 29 was a
40 ft container loaded down with over 30,000 pounds
of non-perishable food, which included 532 boxes
and 22 barrels. Also included in the container
were 140 boxes of hospital, first aid and medical
supplies, including over 1,000 sheets, pillows,
blankets and towels donated by the Queen Elizabeth
Hotel for the hospital, 24 mattresses, 300 boxes
and bags of clothing new and used, donated by
Peerless Clothes, the Apparel Manufacturers Institute
of Quebec and the community at large, 200 toys
and stuffed animals and numerous boxes of kitchen
supplies. Shipment to Grenada was at a cost of
$5,000 which were collected through donations
from the general public and fundraising events.
The Grenada Hurricane Relief Committee wishes
to express our sincere thanks for the support
of the community and would like to count on their
continued support to fill the next container which
is scheduled to leave for Grenada by the end of
October. Please continue your much needed support
and donations. For
